Against the background of structural change in rural areas, prototypical answers are to be found as to how vacant farmhouses can meet new requirements and uses without negatively influencing the changing village structures and without putting architectural heritage at risk.
Supported by the AULET research incentive program of the Faculty of Architecture and Landscape, a one-day workshop and exhibition took place on 31.08.24 as part of an “Open House Day” in the circular village of Prezier in Lüchow-Dannenberg (Wendland). The occasion was the start of a dialog with local residents and artists about a new art and cultural center in the village.
The assumption is that a process-based approach to architecture that focuses on flexibility, participation and artistic support makes it possible not only to preserve historical buildings, but also to use them in innovative ways and thus make a positive contribution to structural change in rural regions.
